The Best Podcasts for Dietitian Side Hustlers

I love podcasts. They are FREE and an invaluable source of information. If you don’t listen to podcasts, now is the time to start!

Getting Started with Podcasts

If you are new to podcasting, you might have no clue on how to even listen to a podcast. Most people listen to podcasts on one of the major podcast directories. Podcasts can often times be found on the podcast hosts website as well.

Major Podcast Directories:

  • iTunes Apple Podcasts
  • Google Podcasts
  • Stitcher
  • Spotify

Once you find the podcast directory of your choice (I’m a Google Podcast person myself), down the app or bookmark the website. Search for podcasts you want to listen to and click “Subscribe” to add them to your list.

You can always download episodes which is helpful if you want to listen when you are not on wifi.

Show Some Love!

Also, be sure to leave a review if you enjoy a particular podcast. Subscribes, downloads, and reviews really help the podcast host. And this means they can continue to create amazing content that you can consume for free!

My Top 3 Podcast Listening Tips

Here are a couple of tips to make the most out of podcasts:

  • Find the best podcast to “binge listen” to
  • Work on increasing the playback speed
  • Be creative on when you listen to podcasts

Find the best podcast to “binge listen” to

Once you find the right podcast for you, consider binge-listening to it (listen to all the episodes!). Think of how people binge-watch TV shows on Netflix. You can do this with a podcast too!

Often times a podcast will build on itself or cover related topics. Listening to an entire series of podcast episodes can have a tremendous level of value.

Newer podcasts are easier to binge listen to compared to older podcasts which have 100s of episodes. Remember that some older podcasts may have outdated content.

Work on increasing the playback speed

When I learned that I could increase the playback speed for podcasts, it was a GAME CHANGER for me! In your podcast directory, you can change your playback speed to 1.2 or 1.5 or 2.0 (this may vary based on directory).

I started by increasing the playback speed to 1.5x and worked my way up to 2.0x. So now I listen to podcasts in half the time. I learn more in a shorter period of time. And I love it!

If I end up needing to take some notes, I will play back at a slower speed.

Be creative on when you listen to podcasts

You can listen to a podcast ANYTIME. So, get creative!

You can listen to a podcast when you are:

  • Driving
  • Walking
  • Exercising
  • Gardening
  • Doing the laundry
  • Getting ready in the morning

Podcasts allow you to fill your time doing every tasks with education and inspiration. I’ve learned a lot about creating passive income and changing my mindset on long car rides. Where I used to listen to music, I made a swap to podcasts and began learning soooo much.

Find the spots in your schedule with downtime where you can start listening to podcasts.
